Plan of study
As a first year engineering student one must take two semesters of an introductory Engineering course. Within this course, students will learn about different team processes, the design process and also get an introduction in computer coding languages. If a student signs up to take EPICS, he or she will only need to take a one semester introductory Engineering class. This class is faster pace and will also cover most of the information that the students who are required to take two. In addition to Engineering course, the EPICS students need to only stay in EPICS their first year. The advantage of taking only one is that it allows the students to have more free space within their schedules and also gives them a more personalized first year of engineering ("EPICS of Purdue", 2014).
Experience
In addition to having a cleaner plan of study, EPICS students get to have real life engineering experience right away. Employers look for students that have already had experience in the field and values students that have partaken in the EPICS program the same way. The EPICS program also shows students what it is like to have hard deadlines and also teaches them to be able to work with professionals that are outside their perspective fields. These experiences will help the students to be able to adjust very quickly to whatever job or challenge they are faced with in the work force ("EPICS of Purdue", 2014).
