The "Cradle Of The Astronauts"
JANICE VOSS
Janice Voss received her undergraduate degree in engineering science from Purdue in 1975. She went on to get her graduate degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She became an astronaut in July of 1991. While working for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) , she worked on projects with the Astronaut Mission Development Branch and Robotics Branch. Over her career, she spent 49 days in space and orbited the earth 779 times. Some of her missions included STS-57 (1993), STS-63 (115), STS-94(1997) and STS-99(2000). After battling cancer, Voss passed away on February 6, 2012(National Aeronautics and Space Administration, 2014). The Voss Model being built in Discovery Park serves as a memorial to Janice Voss.
